This last one is of our bedroom because I had to show off the quilt that Hans made me for CHristmas. He picked colors I would have and the kind of simple pattern that I would have picked out for myself too! He is amazing although I might be catching up to his skills in the sewing department. Last week I fianlly loaded my own bobbin and thread correctly for the first time ever!! HOw embarassing! Anyway- Tait has a tiny room that I have an "art" table set up in and then the older boys share a bedroom off the side of the kitchen. We have had the windows replaced and new doors are on the way. I think this will all work out quite well!! Wish us luck!

My brother-in-law painted the paneling in his house and it looks just fine. Pick a nice creamy color and the space will just open up. Another thing that made a huge difference was adding a little bit of baseboard in a contrasting lighter color. I am so glad you are all together again,. You are amazing!!!

I have also painted lots of paneling in my basement. I love how it turned out. Just make sure you use a good, thick primer. And that everything dries very well before adding another coat. I'm glad that you have such a good attitude about it all, but being with Hans makes it all worth it huh?

I am super jell and loving all of it! Some of my favorite family memories are in a smaller sapce that we seemed to be crammed in. But I wouldn't trade them for anything as I am sure you are going to have wonderful memories there! I need to come for a weekend and totally I will help you paint or whatev!! I miss you!

Shellie...you make me smile. I love your optimistic attitude! I'm with Bonnie, in that small space is great for making good memories. Good luck with all the changes, you'll definitely not be lacking projects in the new town.

I have a friend that moved there about 9 months ago...Andrea Saunders is her name, a husband, daughter and son is her game. ahahhah. Maybe you'll be in her ward?? If so, she's a great person and very funny.

Your neighbors are going to love you when you're done with all your projects...you're going to drive up the home values there! I can't wait to see when you're done. So glad you're with Hans! Paint the paneling. It took Brett and I 2 years before we painted it in our last house and I wish we would have done it when we moved in!

It was a treat to see it in person and to be able to cook in your kitchen and to show you the light over the stove really does work!!! I am so impressed with your attitude, are you sure you are my daughter. I am afraid I would not be so optimistic. I love you tons and am glad you are a happy family once again. See you so very soon for such a fun outing!!!

I think it's cute! And did you say the power company was paying for it? If it's free or cheap, you can't argue with that. I've come to learn that in even 6 months time you can make a house a home and like what you said, it's the fact that you little family is together that matters!

Way cute Shell - you are an amazing blogger - I am so not good at it! Thank heavens for Facebook. Just paint the paneling - we did it in Layton and it worked great, especially with a good primer or else you will use a TON of paint. Making a house a home is the best part of moving! Can't wait to hang out with you next week! Love ya - the Goat (apparently also known as The Mom)

Check out hgtv's site or DIY for ideas. I know you can paint paneling from one of the HGTV shows. Wipe it down well, then use a primer. Have fun with all of your projects! We're in kind of the same boat here - inherited a house that wasn't updated since it was built in the 70's!! Had the original orange/brown shag carpeting in the living room! lol

I am so glad that you, Hans and the boys can be together again. I can't even imagine how excited you must be. My parents lived in that trailer when I was born, but I am sure it was more stylish back then. : ) I am glad that you are updating it and having some projects. Hope you enjoy OC and that we see you more often.

I am so excited you guys moved into the ward, and that I get to be your visiting teacher. The trailer, wow....I dont miss it, okay somedays I do. That paneling is awful. When you get ready to paint let me know, I will come help. I was laughing about the bobbin, Ryan taught me about 2 months ago how to use the sewing machine. I usually just take it to my MIL.

Shelly, do you remember my trailer before we did all our fix up's? It looked just like yours does now!! Advice, use two coats of good primer (Kilz) on your cupboards and paneling before you paint it. It really makes a big difference. We also filled in our cracks with wood filler but that is really time consuming. Best of luck to you!!

WELCOME to our new home

We got moved in settled a few weeks ago, but it has taken me longer than I thought to get back into my groove. I hadn't realized that I HAD a groove, maybe it was more like a rut, but anyway, I am comfortably back into it and that is that. So, I am sure that you are all curious to see what exactly we moved into. You have to promise to not be jealous!!! Really.... everybody seems to think that I mind terribly our new home, but I don't mind it that much. I am with Hans, the boys have their dad and unlimited roaming space and so much more family close by, I would make the trade again anyday. Not to mention the projects that I am planning that will keep me busy for quite some time. Ready?
Well, the power plant pays for all of their employees to move within 40 miles of the plant so they packed us up and shipped us off. This is the truck arriving. It was huge! Our stuff only took up about 1/3 of the truck!

Hans and I are still in debate about what is happening with the exterior of the house. I want to get some paint and paint it, then get a good color match and do the shutters differently. The porch will be fixed- it sags in the middle and threatens to collapse whenever you step on it. I want to put a little roof over it, a simple little peak that stretches back to the trailer, that would hopefully break up the ugliness a little bit. we will probably be here for 21/2 to 3 years so I want to make it look like a home for us.

OK- let me explain that roof looking thing. Nevermind- can't explain it. But I am going to try to put little support strut things off from it to support a new piece of wood that will make it look like a beam instead of a chintzy shingled roof inside of a house. And that is faux brick paneling. he he he. I have never seen it before. I giggle when I see it. The next pic is the kitchen dining combo. The floor is newish lineolium, so that is good to stay. But the wallpaper is falling off and so I am going to practice my tiling and do a medium dark greyish tile and then strip the cupboards and paint them a white. The door knobs will be replaced too. Hopefully this will work with the mustard yellow stove- this trailer is 30 years old, so it is very 70's with the wood paneling EVERYWHERE!!

UNGH. The paneling is sooo dark! This hallway could use a coat of paint. Hans' grandma is skeptical of us painting the paneling, truthfully I am too, but this is so drab I have got to do something! The light fixture is going to be replaced so my dad doesn't hit his head everytime he comes over. Well, for that matter, most of the light fixtures will get to be replaced soon.

I saved the best for last!!! Our bathroom is horrid! Seriously- I don't mind it, it just makes me laugh it is that ugly. The floral nasty green print coordinates with the yellos tub, toilet and sink. The linoleum is the same shades and that crazy design you could sit and stare at for hours trying to figure out the pattern. A new sink is already in the works. A new shower curtain already bought, and so many plans floating in my head. Wall paper off, new linoleum, tiling another backspash, paint the walls, build a frame around the mirror to make it the focal point. So much to do. Will I get it done in my 3 year time limit?? Oh and the kicker, the washer and dryer are in the bathroom! Convienent!!!

We had such a fun Halloween! It got kicked off with an adult( that sounds naughty!) Halloween Party which was fun as it always is to get together with all of everybody. I love seeing all the costumes and wish I knew which file Hans put them uner so I could post them. Beau and Bonnie won my prize for best dressed- Beau looked hot in that eyeliner and black nail polish. Anyway, then on Halloween we had a bunch of the kids over for a little party and had a great time- I did anyway, I hope the kids did too. We went trick or treating in the "old ward" just to say hi to some folks we hadn't seen in a while. The boys had a great time. Tait slept through it all in his comfy bear outfit and Hiett only fell down two sets of stairs with his AWESOME hoomemade batman mask. I don't know how much longer I will get away with homemade costumes but until then- $6 always beats out $20-40 in my opinion, and I think the kids have more fun being "creative". HA ha. We had a great time and the candy is almost gone already- I swear I haven't helped too much!

How can you not smile when you see that!? Tait hung out on this blanket while we were fishing on Monday- he loves to be outside- and it's a good thing since that's where we are most of the time!
